Climate Matrix 12 × 7 × 6

Climate Window by Month × Region × Activity

Pick your month, pick your region, pick your activity. Get the 12×7 climate-fit matrix and the best week in 2026 for your plan as a one-line pill. Built on the 2026 climate outlook and field experience.

What this solves

Egypt is large enough that "best month" is regional. Cairo in February is a comfortable 19 °C; Cairo in August is forty to a Cairo-local who has spent the last forty Augusts in Cairo. Aswan is a different curve — winter lows of 8 °C, summer highs of 47 °C. Alexandria is cooler than both, with winter rain. The Western Desert oases run cooler nights than the Nile but have brutal summer sun. The Red Sea coast is hot all summer but cooled by the sea breeze.

The matrix bakes in the seven regional profiles for 2026: Cairo is best Nov–Feb (15–22 °C, dry, breezy), shoulder Mar–Apr (sandstorm risk), tough May–Sep (30–40 °C). Luxor is best Nov–Feb (10–25 °C), shoulder Mar–Apr / Oct (28–32 °C), tough May–Sep (35–45 °C). Aswan is best Nov–Feb (10–25 °C), shoulder Mar–Apr, tough May–Sep (38–47 °C, summer hot sun). Sinai (Sharm/Dahab) is best Oct–Apr (15–28 °C), shoulder May–Sep (30–40 °C, dry heat). Red Sea coast (Hurghada / El Gouna) is best Oct–Apr, summer OK with sea breeze. Western Desert oases (Siwa / Bahariya) are hot spring to moderate Mar–Apr, summer brutal. Alexandria is best Mar–May / Sep–Nov (20–26 °C, Mediterranean), winter wet and cool.

Activity modifier: sunrise (best cooler months), balloon (best Nov–Feb, lowest wind), desert trek (best Nov–Feb), felucca (best Oct–Apr), souk walking (any month), cruise (Nov–Mar ideal). The calculator turns month × region × activity into a single fit score and a "best week in 2026 for your plan" pill.

Limitations

  1. Alexandria "shoulder" is mild, not misty. Alexandria's December is 18 °C and rainy, which is the Mediterranean shoulder, not a cold British winter. The matrix calls it "shoulder" because it's cooler than ideal — not bad.
  2. The matrix is for sunrise activity. Sunset adds ~2 °C and reduces wind. Other activities (crystals, souk, dive) have their own fit which is not in this matrix.
  3. Sinai summer is dry, not humid. Sharm and Dahab are dry heat. The matrix says "shoulder" but the comfort is real — sea-breeze cooled afternoons, no humidity shock.
  4. Western Desert oases swing more than 30 °C day-night. Even in "best" months, nights are 5 °C and days are 22 °C. Pack for both.
  5. The 2026 outlook is not yet weather-normalized. Spring 2026 is forecast as a warm El Niño residual year; expect ~1 °C above the long-term averages.

FAQ

What is the single best month overall?

November — for most regions and most activities. Cairo, Aswan, Luxor, Sinai, Red Sea, Western Desert all hit "best". Alexandria is "shoulder" (still good, just rain-prone).

Is Egypt too hot in summer?

Yes for the Nile-valley coast (Luxor, Aswan, Cairo interior). No for the Red Sea coast and Sinai — those regions have sea-breeze and dry heat. Alexandria is the summer-saver (25–28 °C).

What about March / April — shoulder months?

Shoulder is workable but brings the khamsin sandstorm season. Treat as a risk-weighted "best" — the temperatures are right but you may lose 1–3 days to a khamsin.

Is the cruise season year-round?

Yes, with a sweet spot Nov–Mar. Summer cruise is doable but the on-shore excursions at Luxor and Edfu-Temple get brutally hot.

When is the Western Desert too hot?

May–September. The oases get 40 °C+ daytime and 25 °C nights — fine for a 2-day trip with pre-dawn / sunset windows. Beyond that, the heat is punishing and the sand ground is dangerous to walk on in the midday.
